Nestled against the Sinclair Inlet with the Olympic Mountains providing the backdrop for cinematic sunsets, downtown Port Orchard is a picturesque place to spend the day. Whether shopping, eating or enjoying the waterfront park and marina, it’s easy to see how our harborside town inspired local bestselling author Debbie Macomber’s “Cedar Cove” series. 

Small, locally owned restaurants and shops make up nearly all of the storefronts downtown.  The businesses lining Bay Street’s covered sidewalks recall Port Orchard’s rich and eclectic history.  Founded in 1890, Bay Street was one of the first streets established in Port Orchard and soon became the center of commerce for the area. Today you will find  fine dining establishments right alongside bail bondsman, reflecting the unique makeup of Port Orchard as both the Kitsap  County Seat and a popular destination for visitors  and residents alike.    

Downtown Port Orchard hosts everything from the oldest Farmer’s Market on the Kitsap Peninsula every Saturday from 9:00am-3:00pm  April-October,  to the Fathom’s O’ Fun Parade in June, to the Jingle Bell Run and Festival of Chimes and Lights every December.  POBSA hosts an Artwalk the first Saturday every month April - November from 2:00pm - 5:00pm.  Be sure to check our events page for this week’s happenings.

While you’re downtown,  take a walk along our  waterfront boardwalk, which will soon stretch from the boat launch across from city hall  through downtown to the shops and restaurants at the eastern edge.  Be sure to climb the observation deck near the Port Orchard Marina to take in the views of the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard across the water.
