Frequently Asked Questions:
What is a Railrider?
A railrider is a pedal powered vehicle that rides on railroad tracks. They have 4 polyurethane wheels, hydraulic disc brakes, pedals for each seat, and are comfortable, fun and easy to ride. There is no need to carefully watch the road ahead, there is no need to steer, and riding is hands free – making it easy to take photographs and video as you roll along.
Who can participate in a railbike adventure?
Railbike adventures are truly meant for everyone! Couples, families, groups of friends, people of all ages.
Your safety is our priority. We want you to have fun, but we also want to make sure your rail bike adventure is without incident. Know your health limits: pre-existing health conditions; recent surgery, injuries or conditions that resulted in limited mobility. Do not ride a rail bike if it could aggravate an existing health condition. If you are severely allergic to bee stings, please bring an EpiPen with you. Our staff will have bee sting ointment available.
Pedaling is part of the experience and riders should be prepared to do light to moderate exercise. Riders should be able to bike recumbently for 70–90 minutes at low to moderate exertion. It is best enjoyed at a leisurely pace to give you a chance to take in your surroundings. These trips feature a gentle mixed grade of about 1 1/2%.
Can Kids Come Along?
Absolutely! There is no minimum (or maximum!) age limit. Infants can ride with an adult in a baby style front harness (1 year of age or under travel free). Car seats are allowed and secured to railrider seats with a single lap style seatbelt. Lap riding is not allowed as it is unsafe. Children must be accompanied by a rider at least 16 years of age. Younger children may not be able to reach the pedals but can be safely buckled in to enjoy the ride. All riders must be in their own seat and wear seatbelts.
