Picture yourself on the edge of the Pacific, waves lapping at your boots, under a wide-open sky alongside fellow diggers, all focused on one thing: razor clams. Whether fried, baked, or chowdered (yes, that should totally be a verb), these meaty clams are best served dripping in butter and paired with local wine. Mouth watering yet?

Day or Night Digging?

Adventure at night digging for clams!

Daylight digs are perfect for beginners, but there’s something magical about bringing along a headlamp or lantern and nighttime digging. Picture lanterns glowing for miles, the moon shining above, and the soft sounds of the ocean as people dig for their dinner. Clamming is more than just a harvest—it’s a tradition for many. Families return year after year, passing down the skill of finding clams and sharing stories of past digs.

Just wait until the moment you spot the telltale “show” in the sand and plunge your shovel or clam gun deep. There’s something so satisfying and heartwarming about working for your own food, surrounded by the beauty of Grays Harbor. Keep an eye on the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife website for up-to-date information and announcements on dig dates.
